Red Mechels Broek walk

In the vicinity of the Sint-Romboutstoren, on the eastern side of the city there are splendid grasslands: the Mechels Broek. Natuurpunt manages over 100 hectares of wet grasslands here with ditches, bomb crater ponds, pollard willows, and hedgerows. In the middle of the area, there is a lake, created by extracting sand for the construction of the motorway. A true paradise for thousands of water birds. Thanks to the hide for bird-watching, observation tower and visitors' centre, there's plenty to do in the Mechels Broek.
