Mechelen, access for all

Welcome to the walking city of Mechelen, where everything is within walking distance or within the reach of a wheelchair. Mechelen has worked hard to ensure that the city is fully accessible for residents and visitors alike. It is now ready and waiting to be discovered - by everyone!

We have produced an ‘accessible Mechelen’ brochure that leads past a number of Burgundian highlights in the footsteps of Margaret of Austria, who resided in Mechelen in its heyday in the 16th century when it was the capital of the Burgundian Netherlands. So older tourists, visitors with a temporary or permanent disability or with special care requirements need have no qualms about visiting Mechelen.

Did you also know that you can make autism-friendly preparations for your visit to St Rumbold’s Tower and the listening walk ‘If walls could talk’?

If the location you want to visit is inaccessible or only partially accessible, take a look at virtueelmechelen.be and discover the sights virtually!
