Huis Inge Goderis

It was Maria Petit, the great grandmother of the current owner Inge Goderis, who established the original shop in Lange Nieuwstraat in Mechelen in the early 1900s. In those days it sold not just knitting wool and sewing cotton but also groceries, etc. The business has always been passed down from mother to daughter and gradually began to specialize in needlecrafts in the broadest possible sense.

When the shop moved to No. 137 Onze-Lieve-Vrouwestraat in the 1940s, it was renamed 'Huis Van der Zeyp' (Soap House). In 2004 it moved to No. 131-133 Onze-Lieve-Vrouwestraat where it is located today. In 2007 Inge Goderis took over the business, representing the fourth generation. She changed the name of the shop to 'Huis Inge Goderis', though it is also known as 'De Handwerkwinkel' (The Handiwork Shop).
